Cougar Bay Sailing

Lake Coeur d'Alene, Idaho

101 sailing.jpg

Welcome

Cougar Bay Sailing set anchor at the north end of North Idaho’s Lake Coeur d’Alene in 1971, when a group of 10 recreational sailors found an ideal home for their shared passion for sailing and camaraderie.

(Yes “Chowder Society” is part of the official title, acknowledged annually with a chowder feed.)

As Lake Coeur d’Alene’s oldest and most established sailing group, CBSCS holds true to official rules of sailboat moorage and membership, yet has sustained a sense of casualness intended by the charter sailors.

We own bragging rights for location and our well-appointed facility is hard to beat.

Location, Location...

We're located 10 minutes southwest of downtown Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and about 40 minutes east of downtown Spokane. That makes it easy to stay a week, a weekend, a day or just a few hours. Many members jump in their cars after work for an evening sail and dinner on the lake.

On The Water

Cougar Bay Sailing is a well-equipped facility with direct access to Lake Coeur d'Alene, which boasts 30 miles in length and 10 miles at it's widest point.

On-the-water facilities:

  • A 225-foot,11-slip dock accommodates 41-foot sailboats.  (Yep, we're sailboats only.)

  • There are 10 partners and an extra slip is available for guests. Water depth, even during the lake's draw-down period, is deep so boats can remain in the lake year round.

  • The dock area is secure and equipped with running water and electricity.

  • A covered outdoor kitchen, including a gas barbeque, refrigerator, sink, drawers and cupboards and counter space, and group eating area is located on the dock.

  • A breakfront protects the dock and beach from wave action.

Off The Boat

As much as we enjoy being out on the lake enjoying Lake Coeur d'Alene, there's more to Cougar Bay than sailing. When you or your family aren't out on the water, we have plenty of ways to enjoy life at the lake.

  • Almost 200-feet of lawn and beach for swimming, napping, reading... almost anything summer.
  • A "club house" (We use that term loosely.) houses full men's and women's bath and changing rooms, and a tool storage room. Our fully-equipped kitchen is on the dock.
  • A fire pit accommodates what you would expect from a fire pit -- fire and seating. The fire pit is a natural gathering place and s'mores are always welcome.
  • A shaded picnic bench is located near the fire pit.
  • Adirondack-style chairs line the lawn and a small sitting area up close to the club house.
  • One shaded parking place is available per member.
  • A tent area located near the club house or you can throw a sleeping bag on the lawn.
